The Chakra System

The chakra system is how energy moves through the body, starting at the root chakra and the base of the spine and moving up through the crown chakras. There are seven chakras in all. They each vibrate at a different rate and correspond to different parts of the body and aspects of life. The first chakra, the root chakra, is about self, safety, support and corresponds to the skeletal system and digestive tract. The second chakra, the sacral chakra, has to do with the unconscious, pleasure, comfort and is associated with the sex organs. The third chakra, the solar plexus, is about confidence, success in the external world, and is related to the stomach, liver, and spleen. The fourth chakra, the heart chakra, is associated with love, compassion, harmony, balance, and the arms and hands. The fifth chakra, the throat chakra, has to do with expression and truth, the throat, vocal cords, and thyroid. The sixth chakra, or the third eye, is associated with intelligence, insight, the pineal and pituitary glands. The final chakra, the crown chakra, is related to integration, connection, and oneness with the universe.

Everything in the universe, including us, is made of energy, and this energy can be understood through a set of laws. To understand the chakra system and how it can impact you and your life, we have to first understand the laws that explain how the energy that makes up all life works. There is some dispute as to how many Laws of the Universe there are but depending on the source you will probably see between seven and twelve outlined. Reviewing each law is not the purpose of this blog, but I will give you a brief outline because it is relevant to understanding more about the chakra system.

The Laws of the Universe outline the nature of reality at the most basic levels. I will try to give a brief synopsis of the laws. They state that everything in the world is interconnected and that everything vibrates and moves. You must take action in order to get results, for every action there is a consequence, and there is compensation for your efforts. The laws apply at all levels. Everything has a vibration and similar vibrations are attracted to each other. Higher vibrations will absorb and transform lower vibrations. Everything has an opposite, balance between opposites such as masculine and feminine is needed for harmony, and nothing is more or less important than anything else. There are cycles and rhythms to everything.

The Universal laws tell us that everything is connected and that energy moves, flows, and vibrates through all things. The chakra system is how energy moves through our bodies, connecting us to everything else in the world. As the chakras spin, they pull energy into our bodies from the external world and then move it back out of our bodies, releasing it back to where it came from. Sometimes, however, our chakras become damaged or blocked and this can create problems with the flow of energy, it can become stuck, stagnate, be unable to pull in energy, have a leak, or even become overactive.

These issues can occur for all different kinds of reasons. Grief, loss, trauma, stress, illness, and many other situations that most of us face at some time or another can create issues with our energy system because, of course, it is all connected and what affects us at one level, whether that is physically or emotionally, will affect us energetically as well and vice versa. Every source of energy that we come into contact with has an effect on our energy just as we have an effect on it. The energy we are pulling in from the world around us is affecting us just as much as the thoughts, feelings, and interactions we have.

No matter what the reason or source of an energetic block is, it can create a lot of problems. The specific issues you will have will depend on which chakras are damaged or blocked, but in general you will feel stagnate. There will be physical and emotional symptoms, often a physical issue that is related to the chakra that is damaged and emotions that are overwhelming or get clogged. You will be out of balance and harmony and may have difficulties with the rhythms and cycles of life because your connection to the rest of the energy field is disrupted. Again, each chakra is related to specific parts of the body, specific emotions, and aspects of life so learning more about each chakra and being more aware of yourself will help you identify if you have any chakras that are not operating at their peak.

So, even though we will not be able to go over each chakra and what ailments and issues would indicate an issue in that energy center, we can go over some basic things that you can do in order to help your energy system work at its optimal level. Doing things to improve the flow of energy will help you to pick up on when there is a disturbance in your chakra system. It will also help you to evaluate how the energy you are absorbing feels to your system, whether it is a support or drain.

Doing that evaluation is one of the first things that you will want to do when taking a more active approach to healing and supporting your energy system. Think about what you are feeding yourself energetically and how that feels to you at an energetic level. Remember that we are absorbing energy from everything around us. There is energy in all things, in emotions, in words, in thoughts. So think about what kind of environment you are in physically, emotionally, and mentally. Do you see beauty in the world around you? Do you go places that help you feel filled up, calm, connected? What kind of emotions are around you? Is there a lot of anger, judgment, sadness, fear, or do you surround yourself with laughter, love, kindness, and compassion? What ideas and thoughts are you feeding yourself? This can come from what you watch, what you read, what you hear, as well as what you think.

After you begin to work on making any adjustments that may be needed to what you are feeding yourself so that your type of energetic diet supports the way you want to feel and live your life, then you can begin to add in daily or weekly practices that will help you raise and improve your energy even more. Meditation and yoga are wonderful ways to improve energy flow in the body. Any kind of movement can help with this, as can certain types of music, sound, and chanting. Being in nature and flowing water can all help to heal and move energy as well. Visualization is another way to heal and build energy in our bodies. You can do visualization on your own or do guided visualization like the one I wrote for Building Energy and Chakra Balancing.

There are so many options and ways to heal and build energy in your body. The more you get to know yourself and listen to yourself, you will find that you are guided to what feels most natural and fulfilling for you. Remember, energy wants to vibrate higher so given the opportunity it will, but you have to take action to get results. Good Luck!
